Bringing your electronics project to life with state-of-the-art PCB assembly

Contract Production have many years of experience in the manufacturing of complex electronic assemblies and products, working to the strictest quality standards. We provide electronic assemblies and completed box builds for a wide variety of customers and OEMs, spanning a broad range of technology sectors. Our Panasonic AM100 SMT placement equipment is capable of placing the most challenging components including fine pitch high pin count BGAs, micro BGAs and 0201 component footprints with repeatable precision and accuracy. Complemented by a state of the art 8 zone reflow oven and post flow AOI capabilities you can be assured of a high quality and reliable product every time.

In addition to our automated SMT process, we also assemble through-hole components and designs where surface-mount technology may be either impractical or unavailable. Through-hole components can be both hand- or wave-soldered, allowing us to offer a truly comprehensive and flexible service for all of your surface mount and mixed technology assembly requirements.

What is PCB Assembly?

You might think that it's a pretty straightforward question to answer, and at face-value, it is! A PCB assembly service involves the manufacturing and production of printed circuit boards used in all kinds of electronics products from fridges and dishwashers to wildlife trackers and sound level meters!  However, there's a bit more to it than that, as there are two main methods of PCB assembly, both of which are offered here at Contract Production.

Surface-mount technology (SMT): this is as it says on the tin. With surface-mount assembly, your PCB's components are fixed to the surface of the board using solder paste, as opposed to the more traditional practice of inserting wires through holes in the board. With SMT, the components used tend to be a lot smaller, potentially allowing for the size of your board to decrease.

Through-hole assembly: this is a more traditional way of doing things. However, some components can't be surface-mounted, so we'll still use through-hole assembly to affix them to your board. You might have done some through-hole assembly ourself when you were at school! It involves placing components by hand and feeding metal wires through holes on the board, where the reverse side has solder applied to it, to keep it in place.
