What better thing to do today than think about all the reasons why we love being a Yorkshire-based business?
We took a look at a list of ‘101 reasons everyone should live in Yorkshire at least once’ and chose our top 10 reasons!
1: The People
The people in and around Yorkshire are probably some of the friendliest and most down-to-earth people you’ll ever find, and we love working with and around them everyday.
2: Confectionary Creations
York alone is the home of both Rowntree’s and Terry’s, which between them introduced the world to Kit-Kats, Smarties, Chocolate Orange and After Eights. And of course, then there’s Bassetts in South Yorkshire.
3: Yorkshire Puddings
They just taste so much better in Yorkshire! Every cook, pub and restaurant has its own twist on the best way to do them.
4: The Yorkshire Dales
Although we love the Peak District, it’s spread across a number of different counties. Now the Yorkshire Dales, however, are strictly within Yorkshire, and the stunning scenery has definitely helped us earn the title of ‘God’s Own County’.
5: Market Madness
It’s refreshing that a number of historic market towns in Yorkshire, such as Harrogate, Malton, Holmfirth and Helmsley to name a few, have maintained the tradition of holding market days on a regular basis.
6: Cooplands
Looking for a good pastry for lunch? Cooplands was formed in Scarborough in the 1800s and has become one of the country’s most recognised bakers, with almost 200 stores!
7: Betty’s
Betty’s tea rooms are a historic brand of top-notch tea rooms based across Yorkshire and is the creator of none other than…you guessed it; Yorkshire Tea!!
8: The North Yorkshire Moors Railway
When the Beeching Cuts slashed the railways in the 60s, this survived as a preservation line between Goathland and Whitby, largely thanks to the power of volunteering. Now it’s caught the eye of Hollywood, with both Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford filming there!
9: The Three Peaks
A must for walkers, the Three Peaks is a 24 mile route, and includes 1,585m of ascent across the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours!
10: Literary History
Yorkshire’s literary history is an impressive one, being the home of the Bronte sisters, the inspiration behind Dracula and a place of significant growth for The Lord Of The Rings writer J.R.R Tolkien.
There are so many things to love about Yorkshire, and this list could go on and on, but we’ll leave it there…for now.
